The substance that gives the region its red color is the iron mineral in the volcanic tuff. The area is like pinkish during the day, and turns red at sunset. You should start hiking from Cavusin village at least 3 hours before sunset to catch the red.

You should also make your time management well during the 5 km. hiking trail. The route includes Direkli Church, Uzumlu Church, Hacli Church. and the Red Valley.

The crimson ambiance on sunset also give a dreamy scenery to the valley. That’s why Red Valley is one of the popular tourist zones in Cappadocia.


Hiking

The 5 km. hiking track makes Red Valley a popular hiking area in Cappadocia. It is an ideal area and activity for hiking lovers.

For walking out the whole valley, you’ll need about 1-2 hours. The walking trail will lead you to the famous Cavusin Village.

You’ll experience Cappadocia from a different perspective by viewing its lovely hills and fairy chimneys from the ground level. There is also a lovely observation terrace at the Red Valley.

While strolling along the Red Valley, you’ll witness the life styles of the old times. There are many churches in the region. Direkli Church, Uzumlu Church and the Hacli Church are the most popular ones. The Uzumlu Church has magnificent frescoes and definitely worth seeing.

The region has an even more magnificent atmosphere when viewed from a hilltop. And when you access the observation terrace, you’ll see it for sure. You can come here early in the morning and watch the sunrise, or at the end of the day to the sunset.


Red Valley is also situated on the popular routes of hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia and ATV, quad and 4×4 off-road safari tours. The balloon rides start from here in the early morning.

You’ll find a nice restaurant at the Red Valley. Here we recommend you to taste the local dishes such as pot dishes, apricot stew, etc. Breakfast is also served in the mornings. You can also find snacks such as dried fruit and crackers from the buffets at the entrance of the valley.

You’ll find many souvenirs in the small bazaar located at the entrance of the valley. Handmade towels, woven rugs, carpets and bags, as well as stone sculptures and magnets in the form of miniatures of the region’s famous fairy chimneys, can be a good gift option.
